That is the abbreviated word of Poly-Lactic Acid. PLA (polylactic acid) is a biomass plastic made from starch and sugar derived from plants such as corns and sugar canes.
It is also a biodegradable plastic, and is eventually broken down into water and carbon dioxide by the action of microorganisms that exist in the natural world like in the soil. The material is hardly decomposed under normal use and can be used for a long time same as conventional plastics. Among all plastics, PLA (polylactic acid) has the lowest level of carbon dioxide emissions when burned. That is a great feature of PLA. The materials of PLA derived from plants which are renewable and there is no fear to be exhausted. It is expected to become materials that contribute to the realization of the sustainable society. ※Be careful putting PLA products in your car. It will deform if left in an environment exceeding 50 degrees Celsius because it is made of 100% plant-derived materials ( which typically has low heat resistance ).
